MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Customers who have a medical condition which results in there being doubt in their ability to complete a flight safely or which poses a risk to other passengers, must obtain medical clearance from a doctor and our team. Customers who need to use medical equipment or supplementary oxygen on the plane also require medical clearance. It is important to note that the Medical Clearance form is to be completed by a medical doctor, as well as an Indemnity Form and the two sent to Samoa Airways at enquiries@samoaairways.com at least 72-hours before the intended departure to ensure that the request can be assessed.
Medical clearance is required to assess an individual’s fitness to fly.

Customers requiring medical clearance are those who may:

  • be flying after an illness or operation and may aggravate their condition due to the flight environment.
  • be travelling with their own medical equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps and suction apparatus.
  • be considered a potential hazard to the safety of the aircraft, other passengers or crew members.
  • expectant mothers approaching 35 weeks (for international travel) or 36 weeks (for domestic travel) of pregnancy.

For stable chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS, lupus, and multiple sclerosis where controlled medicine is effective and readily available, medical clearance may not be required. However as a precaution, customers should consult their doctor prior to travel and ensure they carry essential medication in their carry-on for use onboard.

Samoa Airways reserves the right to refuse carriage of passengers with conditions where adverse effects or hazard may result during the flight. When Crew suspect that a passenger may be ill, the Captain will be informed and a decision will be made on whether the passenger is fit for travel.
The comfort and safety of all our passengers is a priority and it is crucial that customers inform our staff when making a booking about special assistance which they may require.
