Terms & Conditions

  • Extra baggage is only available on request on Samoa Airways’ ticketed and operated flights between Apia and Auckland and Sydney and vice-versa.
  • Extra baggage may be purchased at the time you book your flights or after you have booked your flights up to 3 hours from the scheduled departure time of your flight. Once the check-in is open and in progress, the pre-paid baggage option is no longer available and you will be required to pay the higher Excess Baggage charges at the Airport on the day of flight departure.
  • Carriage of any extra baggage is subject to availability and capacity limitations.
  • Customers may purchase up to two Extra Bags maximum 23kg each with a maximum overall baggage allowance of three pieces including the complimentary baggage included in your fare.
  • Extra baggage can only be purchased through the following channels: Samoa Airways’ Call Centre or through a Travel Agent who has a Travel Agency account with Samoa Airways.
  • Extra baggage may be purchased for adults and children only.
  • Checked baggage items are subject to the following size and weight limitations:
    1. Up to 23 kg per bag and total linear dimensions (length+width+height) of 158cm (62″).
    2. Bags over 23kg to a maximum of 32 kg, or which are larger than the total linear dimensions outlined above, may be accepted for carriage but will incur overweight/oversize charges – WST150/NZD100/AUD100 paid at the Airport .
    3. Your e-ticket / itinerary must be presented at check-in as proof of pre-paid Extra Baggage on Samoa Airways and the Airline reserves the right to charge you the full excess baggage rates charged at the Airport on the day of departure if you fail to provide proof of your itinerary showing the pre-paid baggage codes (XBG1 and XBG2).
    4. Samoa Airways reserves the right to change the rates, terms and conditions of the Extra Baggage product at any time prior to purchase with or without notice.
    5. All baggage is carried subject to Samoa Airways’ Conditions of Carriage and baggage requirements. Customers are required to comply with Samoa Airways’ restrictions on prohibited and unacceptable items.
    6. Extra Baggage payments are non-refundable except in the limited circumstance described in the Refunds section below.

Changes to Extra Baggage bookings

  • We can transfer your Extra Baggage payments when you rebook your existing flights but we cannot transfer these to a different booking or to another customer’s booking

Combined Baggage Allowance

  • Where two or more customers have booked together and there is a pooled or grouped Extra Baggage allowance, all members of the group are required to check-in together to ensure acceptance of Extra Baggage at the prepaid charges. Failure to do so may result in Samoa Airways applying the full excess baggage rates charged at the Airport on the day of departure for any additional baggage you check-in

Extra Baggage fees will not be refunded if you:

  • Cancel your flight;
  • Change your mind and decide you no longer need Extra Baggage;
  • Have purchased (or someone else has purchased on your behalf) Extra Baggage by mistake;
  • Have purchased an upgrade to a different class or fare or you have been involuntarily upgraded to a different class or fare, and as a result you no longer require Extra Baggage due to an increased complimentary baggage allowance; or
  • You have purchased a bag in contravention of any of these terms and conditions
  • Refunds will not be given for flight delays

Extra Baggage fees are refundable:

  •  If there is an aircraft change, cancellation or flight disruption of Samoa Airways’ flight and we are unable to carry your pre-purchased Extra Baggage
  • If you have a fully refundable ticket and you wish to refund your ticket – in this case, we will refund both your ticket cost and the prepaid baggage cost less any applicable fees. We will not refund the prepaid baggage cost if you do not seek a refund of your full ticket
  • Where your baggage cannot be carried due to operational, safety or security reasons of your flight that are beyond Samoa Airways’ control; or, if we fail to deliver your Extra Baggage; you have 14 days after the last flight in your itinerary to apply for a refund.
  • Refund applications must be submitted online by emailing enquiries@samoaairways.com. If you do not have access to a computer or internet, please phone our Call Centres for help: Samoa +685 28112, New Zealand 0800 359726, Australia 1800 359726 or send your request through your Travel Agent. Refund applications cannot be processed at the Airport or onboard our flights.
  • Samoa Airways will only process refunds to the same form of payment (e.g. credit card) used to pay for the Extra Baggage you purchased.
